This "dance of the belly" has been done since the dawn of time, by many cultures, in many different forms, during many different eras spanning thousands of years. Its history/herstory is rich in meanings, uses, techniques, styles, evolution and social customs. It is a sacred dance of spirit, emotion, sensuality and artistic expression. It is a dance, in one form or another, for women of many varied shapes, sizes, ages and abilities. It helps to connect body, mind and soul into a joyous worship of the Higher Power, Spirit, God, Goddess, Life Energy, Almighty, Infinite or Self. The dance uses
isolations, shimmies and undulations of different parts of the body.
Also the movement of these different parts trace out a variety of
shapes and letters in a kind of ancient writing. In modern times, the dance has taken on a more superficial style known as cabaret dancing and sometimes sadly stoops to degrading levels. Today there is a resurgence of the practice and uses of this dance that will hopefully help to deepen women's understanding of her divine nature, provide a fun form of exercise, and bring people together for a rich and lively form of entertainment. |

Belly Dance With Class These are fun, authentic, Middle Eastern belly dance performances, guaranteed to entertain and bring joy to all ages. Performances can be done for rest homes, parties, theme days, children's parties and special events and can include lessons, group participation and lectures. Elderly A special participation program for the elderly or people in wheel chairs is called 'Belly Dance from the Belly Up'. This class utilizes hand, arm and upper body movements and can be done sitting in a wheel chair. Gia can bring simple props of veils and finger cymbals for added fun and effects. Programs can be designed to fit your needs. Usually a performance and lesson can be done in one hour or less. Children Children's' parties can be arranged around the specific ages of the children involved. An average party will include a performance, costumes for the children, a dance lesson and a group performance. Children's parties are one hour. Adults A typical adult performance includes an entrance with zils (finger cymbals), a veil dance, taxim (slow movement) and drum solo (fast shimmies). This is a 15 minute performance. It has been given for ladies' groups, surprise birthdays, etc.
